Lincoln Woods State Park - New Park Pavilion
Lincoln, RI
Architect - Brewster Thornton Group Architects
Construction Cost - $ 5,980,000.00
Lincoln Woods State Park is located in one of Rhode Island's most densely populated urban areas and is a popular retreat attracting nearly one million visitors each year, offering fresh-water swimming, trout fishing, hiking, horseback riding, ice fishing, ice skating, and many other recreational opportunities.
The new pavilion project modernized and created new facilities and visitor amenities at the Lincoln Woods Beach. The work concluded, improved energy efficiency and enhanced water quality in the lake as well as reducing impacts to nearby wetlands. Three new buildings, connected by a central plaza, were constructed: the fully accessible buildings house concessions, office spaces, restrooms, shower facilities, and a nature center for educational programming. An observation tower in the main building allows lifeguards to keep watch over beach goers. These new facilities were designed to reduce their impact on the natural environment through the use of efficient technology, recycled materials, and innovative design strategies.
Because the park and beach were open throughout 2016, construction was completed in phases requiring close coordination with the park staff to protect the safety as well as limiting any disruption of services to persons visiting this popular state park; the beach area was restricted, and ACC was responsible for providing alternative visitor facilities and lifeguard facilities during construction.
