The City of Warwick and Warwick Fire Department dedicated the new fire station for the City of Warwick to be known as Potowomut Fire Station #10 on the site of the former Potowomut Elementary School.
The 9,542 square foot two-bay fire station constructed of CMU block with brick veneer, hip roof - wood truss system, with granite trim that includes some signature pieces saved from the old elementary school.
The fire station includes space for a community police substation and a community meeting room for public events with its own separate entrance and handicapped accessible unisex toilet room. The existing playground was maintained, and new recreational playing fields were added for the use of the neighborhood.
The living quarters include kitchen, day room, laundry facility, individual sleeping quarters for 4 firemen as well as separate quarters for the lieutenant and captain utilizing a shared toilet/shower. The living quarters also include separate men’s and women’s bath/shower facilities, an exercise room, and meeting room/dispatch area. The public areas are also served by a uni-sex toilet room. The apparatus bay is approximately 60 feet by 49 feet providing space for one fire truck and one rescue truck. There is a plymovent vehicle exhaust system as well as trench drains located under each truck draining to a holding tank system. Off the apparatus bay are equipment storage rooms and gear room. There is also an emergency generator to keep the fire station and police substation operational.
