Warwick Veterans Middle School
In 2017, as a follow-up to a renovation project completed in 2016 which included new auditorium seating, an extensive renovation project got underway to modernize the 50+ year old Warwick Vets School and ensure it's safe and comfortable for students.
This renovation project included a brand-new state of the art HVAC system providing a new heating and A/C system, with a completely new air supply system bringing in fresh air as well as exhaust air correcting conditions noted in previous air quality reports that revealed elevated levels of carbon dioxide in the school. In addition to the HVAC system, a new elevator was installed to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act standards. New ceilings, new lighting and new wiring were also installed throughout the school. The cafeteria was expanded, and additional classroom spaces were created to accommodate the influx of new faculty and sixth grade students who previously attended the area’s elementary schools.
A complete make-over of interior finishes and systems made the old school into a new school. New entrances were installed with security hardware. Upon completion of this second round of improvements, this former high school, originally constructed in the 1950s, reopened as Warwick Veterans Middle School, the largest middle school in the State of Rhode Island housing 1,200 students in grades six through eight as well as administrative/support/teaching staff of 175 adults, proving that old buildings can be repurposed as new schools.
More recently, ACC completed a Cafeteria and Kitchen Renovation project; work was constructed during second shift and during the Winter and February Vacations to avoid disruption to school services. Final Cost: $170,000.00.
